So we have Everton away today and I for one would be happy with a draw so Play Up Pompey!!!!



A bit about them

Everton were founded as St. Domingo in 1878 so that people from the parish of St. Domingo's Methodist Church could play a sport in non-summer months (cricket was played in summer). A year later, the club was renamed Everton F.C. after the surrounding area, as people outside the parish wished to participate. The club was a founding member of the Football League in 1888, and won their first League Championship title in 1890–91. They won the FA Cup in 1905–06 and the League title again in 1914–15, but it was not until 1927 that Everton's first sustained period of success began. In 1925 the club signed Dixie Dean who, in 1927–28, set the record for league goals in a single season (60 goals in 39 league games, a record that still stands to this day), helping Everton to achieve their third league title.

Everton were relegated to the Second Division two years later but won the title and thus promotion at the first attempt. On their return to the top flight in 1931–32, Everton wasted no time in reaffirming their status and won a fourth League title at the first opportunity. They also won their second FA Cup in 1932–33 with a 3–0 win against Manchester City in the final. The era ended in 1938–39 with a fifth League title. The advent of World War II saw the suspension of League football, and when official competition restarted in 1946 the Everton team had been split-up and paled in comparison to the pre-war club. Everton were relegated again in 1950–51 and did not return until 1953–54, when they finished as runners-up in their third season in the Second Division. The club have been a top flight presence ever since.

UEFA Cup

Pompey have been drawn against Portuguese side Vitoria SC (also known as Vitoria de Guimaraes) in the first round of the UEFA Cup.

The first leg will be played at Fratton Park on Thursday, September 18 with the return leg at Estadio D. Afonso Henriques on Thursday, October 2.

Can't wait for this game! Pompey playing on a Thursday what ever next. Play Up Pompey!!!!!

Pompey 0-1 Manchester United

Well it's first home game of the season and it's a night game under those old floodlights lovely!!!!
So to the pub I went, this is a good place for a pre match drink and chat, it still looks like a building site in the next room! it's been a year since we a a drink at this place and a had a feeling they would of finished by now. This bar now has three tv's in it one showing Sky Sports News no spond the other two Setanta with sound odd! Once mum arrived the drinks started (well two) and we sat on a leather sofa nice.

Now it was time to get to Fratton Park! This lovely old ground is falling apart but I love it. It almost seems like it's alive I have been in the stadium when it was empty (not for a game ok) and you could almost hear it breathing if you know what I mean no? oh well!

Web lost the game to Manchester United but it was close very close. After only 12 seconds when Papa Bouba Diop's shot whistled past the post, before Wayne Rooney shot straight at David James from 12 yards.
Portsmouth might have lacked any real cut and thrust but boss Harry Redknapp will take some consolation that their performance was better than the one that saw them thumped 4-0 by Chelsea in their opening game of the season last week.

Loan player Armand Traore looked very good for a young player impressed I was.

Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch were playing their first game together at Fratton Park and they almost combined to get Crouch in, but Evra nicked the ball of the former Liverpool man's toes when he about to shoot.
An hour of the game had been played before Portsmouth forced Edwin van der Sar into his first save, beating away substitute Thomas's vicious drive.

Manchester United worked the ball inside Diop, for the second time in a few minutes, Evra crossed from the left and Fletcher's effort went scrambled in off Campbell as Sylvain Distin failed to hook it off the line.

Well that game keeps us at the foot of the table only one way to go..... up you idiot.

Pompeygary's MOTM Tevez Ugly but playes well

Pompeygary's Worst Ferdinand well I don't like him.

Pompey verdict Better than the Chelsea game, but we must start scoring 6 out of 10.

PUB!

So this year we start with one of the best pubs of last season Smiffy's.
This small bar opened within the first few years of the 21st century and is situated opposite the overbridge that connects Fratton Station with Goldsmith Avenue. Advertising itself as a bistro, it offers food all day, as well as real ales and coffees. Popular with those visiting Fratton Park when Portsmouth FC are playing, it is otherwise used by locals and passers by.

So is it going to be another result for Pompey against this lot. If I see one flag at the away end with something like "Man Utd Oxford Crew" or something like that I will screem! Play Up Pompey!!!!

Thomas Permanent,Traore On Loan

Jerome Thomas’ loan move to Pompey has been made permanent.

The winger has signed a one-year contract with the Blues.

Pompey will pay Charlton a small fee if Thomas plays a certain number of games.

So that frees up a loan place for Armand Traore from Arsenal. Now thats a good bit of business me thinks Play Up Pompey!
